In addition to Pikachu, who you already met, there are many other iconic Pokemon that kids and adults alike love a bunch, such as Charizard, who is a fire dragon-like Pokemon who can fly and can spew fire from its mouth, Bulbasaur, who is a grass Pokemon who uses its seed and veins to attack, Squirtle, a water type that can shoot water and uses its shell for defense, and Charmander completes this trio of original Pokemon choices, a fire-type that can be hard to handle, but very useful in battles. In his first adventures, he befriends a former Gym Leader called Mysty, and a Pokemon breeder called Brock, with the trio then venturing through the regions to capture Pokemon and battle trainers, while also having to deal with the various plans put forth by Team Rocket, made up of the very funny characters of Jesse and James, joined by their talking-Pokemon called Meowth, who are always hatching up schemes to steal Pikachu from Ash. Now having his first Pokemon, Ashcan starts his adventure to conquer the Indigo League. Pikachu is hard to handle Pokemon and does not want to get into the ball, but he and Ash eventually form a bond and Pikachu becomes his main Pokemon, but it mostly never goes into the ball, but rather would rest on Ash’s shoulder.

In the games you were the protagonist, you could choose the name you wanted to use, and then start your adventure, but this would not work for the anime series that was inspired by the Pocket Monster Games and started off not too long after the first games, in 1997, which is why we were given a protagonist in the form of Ash Ketchum, a teenage boy who wants to become the best Pokemon trainer and wants to catch them all!Īsh is given a Pokemon called Pikachu to start off his adventures, given to him by Professor Oak, who is the grandfather of Ash’s biggest rival, Gary Oak. The many adventures of Ash Ketchum and his friends The latest generations are Pokemon Sun and Moon, where you visit the new region of Alola, and Pokemon Sword and Shield, where you explore the Galagar region. In most of these games, you had what is called a Pokedex, which is a database for Pokemon, with the player having to try and meet or capture all the original 151 Pokemon, but over the years there have been more generations of games developed, and the number of Pokemon increased vastly. Each Gym Leader is the boss of a gym where they raise trainers as well as Pokemon, usually with each of them focusing on one kind of pocket monster. Kanto is the name of the original area in this world that you could explore, and, as a trainer, you had to battle other trainers from the Indigo League, until you have defeated the eight Gym Leaders because that is when you have become a Pokemon Champion.
Trainers then develop their pokemon through battle, having to fight either wild Pokemon or other Pokemon Trainers. In these games, you had the chance to become what is called a Pokemon trainer, who ventures through various regions of this fictional world, where you battle animal-like creatures of different elements, and if you defeat them, they can be captured and stored into what are called Pokeballs. It might feel as Pokemon has been around forever since there are multiple generations of people that have had experiences with these franchise in one way or another, but it’s not such an old series, with it starting off in 1996 with the release of a double video-game by Nintendo called Pokemon: Red and Blue, which was called Pocket Monsters in the original Japanese release.

There are few gaming franchises in the world as recognizable as Pokemon is because this is one of Japan’s biggest exports when it comes to media, with the franchise having started a few decades ago with the release of a few video games, and then expanded upon its brand with manga series, a highly-popular anime television series which has had all sorts of new remakes and stories over the years, collectible cards, a viral mobile app in the form of Pokemon Go, a successful live-action movie called Detective Pikachu, and, of course, there are lots of Pokemon games online that you can play, with the best of them now being available only on friv games, right here and now!
